CompTIA Security+ Certification
Estimated Completion Spring 2025
The CompTIA Security+ is an industry-standard certification for developing the essential skills in an early career in cybersecurity. It is often required for many cyber roles, and is a great stepping stone into the world of information technology. I am currently in the process of studying for the SY0-701 certification, and expect to take the exam in Spring 2025.
What the certification exam consists of:
90 minutes in the exam room
90 multiple choice and performance-based questions
Passing score of at least 750 on a scale of 100-900
Exam prep and tools I am using:
Professor Messer's CompTIA SY0-701 Security+ Training Course on YouTube (free)
Professor Messer's SY0-701 Comprehensive Notes and Practice Exams ($50)
Lots and lots of YouTube videos (free)
I currently enjoy watching Professor Messer's training course because he gives a very straightforward overview of all the concepts, and you do not need to buy his comprehensive notes to follow along. However, I am completing this course after getting a bachelor's degree in cyber, so I am not new to most of these concepts and do not necessarily need extensive training with this exam prep. A lot of this program is review for me and I am focusing on getting through the videos and learning all the acronyms before going back and reviewing the concepts I don't understand as well.
If you have any study suggestions for me, feel free to message me on my LinkedIn or leave a note in my contact form.
